NDD?

kiddos-stream1

I saw a story about Nature Deficit Disorder on the news. No worries that our kiddos will suffer with that particular disorder. We practically live in a cave! No Wii, Playstation, Nintendo, Atari or even TMX Elmo for us. The outdoors is their favorite place to be and play. We have forts, fields, streams, fire rings, treehouses and lots of creepies and crawlies. Fun abounds!

So, I stopped checking blogs for awhile...seems like none of the ones I checked were updating. So, now I return and you have a TON of new posts!

1) Is that Ezra? He looks so big!
2) WHAT is twitter? I heard it somewhere else and felt stupid because everyone else seemed to know what it is.
3) Ryan thinks you're lucky that you don't get invited to, whatever it is you don't get invited to.
4) Have you found anything good to keep the bugs off the kids? Ethan and sabrina are already starting to get bitten.
5) Onion Strings? Onion Strings!!! I have wanted to make those ever since my first "steak by George" at Melody. AWESOME! Tomorrow. I will have them TOMORROW!
6) Actually, I have to get a candy theometer first. Grrr... Oh yeah, and onions.
7)What is red in the chocolate cookies.
8)You can make that garlic stuff using bagels and it is yummy. I broil them and DElicious!
9)I just changed my fb status! (I know you can't wait to read it.)
10)I should have just called you. (Well, not at 10:48pm)

Tracy - wow you have lots of questions! Yay!

1) Yes, it's Ezra and I think it's a very cool picture. Those are Al's sunglasses and I just played with the picture on paint.net, which is a free photo program.
2) Twitter is like a hyper facebook status program. It's all about quick comments and it really only works if you have lots of friends (and since I don't...) It seems very self-centered but that could just be my self-centered insecurities :)
3) Right, Ryan wants to be just like me. :) He just doesn't like going to stuff.
4) Bugs - we haven't gotten bitten yet - but I'm not looking forward to it. Daniel gets an almost allergic reaction - Lymph glands get tumor-big.
5) Onion strings! Mmmm. I put lots of pepper and chili powder in the flour mixture along with salt (not in the recipe) and I make the buttermilk with milk/vinegar. I love the buttermilk on it. LOVE it. The first time I made them I ate 3/4 of the batch before it was dinnertime and Al was all like "That's all I get????".
6) I don't use a candy thermometer. don't have one and didn't want to wait.
7) I think someone put candy canes in the cookies and posted the picture. Mine actually look like chocolate molasses cookies with powdered sugar (I don't press them with a fork) I made a batch last night. Yummmm.
8) That garlic stuff sounds good on bagels. The best part (in my humble opinion) is cooking the bread in a skillet with butter and garlic first. It makes a delicious, crisp, yummy top before you put the cheese mess on. I also broil them for a minute or two after cooking them but I'm always afraid I'm going to forget and burn them!
9) Facebook status - I think I noticed it this morning. Something about lots of laundry?
10) 10:48? Yeah, probably not a good idea to call then :)

Thanks for reading my posts! I feel loved :)

Li, I do envy the ease at which your kids can be in the wilds. We have to work at it a bit more, but it can be done. (Right now they are out back playing in mud and corralling snails. That's what we do in Texas--"corral.")

The best memories are made outside in my opinion! It is so pretty there!

Ardith - we kind of take our area for granted - but not the black flies! I love that Ben & Olivia are coralling snails. Is that difficult?
